Skype für Windows Phone hat ein Update auf die Version 2.16.0.274 erhalten. Mit dem Update gab es erneut Fehlerbehebungen und weitere Optimierungen, jedoch keine neuen Features.
Für Windows Phone 8.1 soll es noch ein umfangreiches Update geben, welches weitere Features bringen soll. Wann dieses Update erscheint ist derzeit noch nicht bekannt. Vermutlich dürfte es in den nächsten Wochen schon bald so weit sein, da auch bald die ersten Windows Phone 8.1 Geräte verkauft werden sollen.
Skype ersetzt künftig den Windows Live Messenger
Skype soll mit Windows Phone 8.1 den Windows Live Messenger künftig vollständig ersetzen. Vor etwa einem Jahr wurde der Windows Live Messenger offiziell eingestellt. Die Umstellung auf Skype soll dieses Jahr abgeschossen werden. Dazu hat Microsoft Skype um einige Features erweitert und in vielen Punkten optimiert. Ein wichtiges Feature soll dabei sein, dass Nachrichtenverläufe künftig zentral in der Cloud gespeichert werden um künftig Offlinenachrichten und synchrone Nachrichten zu ermöglichen. Des weiteren ist es möglich, während einem einfachen Telefonanruf einen Skype Videoanruf über eine im Anrufmenü angezeigte Schaltfläche zu starten - vorausgesetzt man hat den anderen Gesprächspartner in seiner Skype Kontaktliste.
